CBC REPORTS PROTEST OVER DEATHS OF JEHOVAH'S WITNESS CHILDREN
While continuing their lawsuit against attorneys for the Watchtower Society ruling over Jehovah's
Witnesses, Lawrence Hughes and allied friends recently protested at Toronto. Here is a smoothed out French-English translation
of a broadcast about it from Annie Poulin of CBC Radio-Canada, Toronto:
"Lawrence Hughes stands with a sign
before the Law Society of Upper Canada that says “Watchtower Society lawyers have blood on their hands.”
For that father, the lawyers who recommended to his daughter that she refuse blood transfusions are murderers. He wants
the Law Society of Upper Canada to remove their right to practice.
The Ontarian lawyers David Gnam and Shane Brady defended Bethany Hughes during the
last months of her life. The father of the teenager thinks they didn’t act in the interest of his daughter, but rather
defended the interests of the religious group to which they belong. The two lawyers are themselves Jehovah’s Witnesses
and their office is on the group’s premises.
Earlier this year the Supreme Court of Canada decided that the lawyers could not be sued for conflict of interest. The lawyer
and ethics teacher in the medicine department at the University of Calgary, Juliet Guichon, explains the reasoning of the
Court:
‘It is a question of religious faith
of the lawyers, and the lawyers have the right to have their own religious ideas., Lawrence Hughes hopes that the Bar will
interpret the situation differently. But he says he has had no news from the institution since he made a complaint 4 years
ago. Annie Poulin of Radio-Canada, Toronto.”
The
group also took their concern over the deaths of Jehovah’s Witness children to Canada’s capital in Ottawa.
The press covered a G8 summit, gay pride parade, etc, but not the blood issue protest although an estimated two thousand
people in the capital were informed by the protesters themselves. Hughes' ongoing court battle
began after the tragic death of his teen daughter Bethany in 2002.

Lawrence Hughes' daughter, Bethany Abigail
Hughes, died after following the Watchtower Society over Jehovah's Witnesses who say don't
take blood even in an emergency. He has always approached this issue as one of life-and-death,
not an attack on the beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses, among whom are included two surviving daughters. He
wants the other two and indeed other
JW children to stay alive.
Thus this part of the battle or war will continue. It must. This blood bath which Lawrence's
videotape (see elsewhere here) calls "institutional murder" has been going on since 1945 and will continue
until and unless it ends. As said, one estimate is that from 1945 to today, up to 250,000 JWs have already died.
Watchtower used to forbid
vaccinations and organ transplants. They eventually felt compelled to allow the use of many parts of blood but
not whole blood. However, when people bleed profusely, rapidly, the use of just parts of blood or
blood expanders doesn't work fast enough, so the deaths just keep continuing.
The scope of this issue is so enormous and international,
but until now the media, courts, law-makers, even the medical community as well as general public have
not been that much aware of these and related points, hence the immeasurable value of Lawrence's lawsuit
battle of 2002-2010 helping to bring awareness for change. Due to the lawsuit many more have become aware
of this worldwide tragedy and now more than ever will know what's going on!

found out that they work against Watchtower to help JW kids live, they are disfellowshipped, that is harshly shunned with
utter destruction of normal family ties, a gun-to-the-head weapon Watchtower has routinely used and which has sometimes led
to suicides.

JW patients are thus under duress to not take transfusions, doubtlessly causing some
to die unnecessarily; they also do not feel free to tell JW Elders in "Hospital Liaison Committees" to stay away,
this also doubtless causing unnecessary deaths! Not that you are informed you too have an obligation to help us save
lives!
